Cultural trip to Dresden Elbland

You should check out these cultural highlights!

Dresden high culture!

Gottfried Semper was the first to build it: His famous opera house was built between 1838 and 1841. Three decades later, his son Manfred took care of the reconstruction after a devastating fire: Today, one of Dresden's most important cultural landmarks shines in all its splendour and beauty. Look forward to top-class opera and ballet in an enchanting atmosphere.

From Dürer to Gerhard Richter

Picking out individual highlights in Dresden is almost impossible - but we'll do it anyway. You should definitely visit at least four art galleries. At the top of the list is the Old Masters Picture Gallery in the Zwinger. Here you will encounter the entire history of European art like in hardly any other German museum. What else belongs on the must-see list? The Albertinum with the Galerie Neue Meister, the Städtische Galerie Dresden and - almost an insider tip - the Leonhardi Museum.

Classic outside the box

The Dresden Music Festival, one of the largest and most renowned European classical music festivals, is a permanent fixture on the Elbe. Every May and June, a top-class programme of exceptional density and variety takes to the stage. Experience brilliant orchestral concerts, multi-faceted chamber music and celebrated soloists - this is where the international classical music scene meets an unrivalled cultural and historical environment.

Where cultures meet

Completely modernized and entirely re-conceptualized: The Kulturpalast on Dresden's Altmarkt captivates as a House of Arts and Knowledge, a place of encounter, and a space for communication. The centerpiece (and home to the Dresden Philharmonic) is the new concert hall. Experience excellent acoustics and distinctive architecture – and grand concerts! Tip: Another design highlight is the new municipal Central Library at the same address.

1st Castle of Germany

When King Henry I built a wooden fortification on a rock above the Elbe River in 929 and resided in the predecessor building of the Albrechtsburg, the "Cradle of Saxony" was born. Around 500 years later, the ruling Wettins erected the late Gothic Albrechtsburg Meissen. The representative administrative center and residential castle were completed in 1471 – making it the first castle in German architectural history. Visit this architectural gem!
