Burgk Castle

Burgk Castle has been home to the Freital Municipal Collections since 1946. The former Burgk manor was the manor house of the noble Dathe von Burgk family in the 19th century and the administrative center of the Freiherrlich von Burgk coal and ironworks from 1819. In addition to exhibitions on the history of the town and the mining industry, Burgk Castle presents two excellent art collections that show the development of painting in Dresden from the founding of the Royal Academy of Art in 1764 to the present day: the municipal art collection displays nine paintings by Otto Dix and works from Symbolism and Art Nouveau, New Objectivity and Dresden Colorism. The second exhibit is the collection of the Friedrich Pappermann Foundation with works from Dresden Romanticism to the 1990s. The visitor mine in the castle park brings mining to life. A mouth hole opens the way into the depths of the mountain and invites visitors to travel back in time to the mining era around 200 years ago. The mining adventure playground "Burgkania" offers children and families the opportunity to playfully discover and experience the world of mining.
