Der Steilabsturz des Geotops "Backofenfelsen" ist der größte Übertageaufschluss des Rotliegend-Beckens um Freital.
Fast die gesamte Höhe der Felswand von über 50 Metern besteht aus horizontal liegenden, ungeregelten Konglomeraten mit mittel- bis grobkörnigen rotbraunen Arkosesandsteinenund Schiefertonen als Bindemittel. Diese werden lokal bis zu einem Meter mächtig.
