Moritzburg Castle

At a glance

As one of the most beautiful moated castles in Europe, the baroque complex in Moritzburg is surrounded by ponds and parkland, with a fairytale setting and historical hunting tradition.

On an island just outside Dresden lies an impressive example of Baroque architecture: Moritzburg Palace, once a hunting and pleasure palace built by Augustus the Strong and still surrounded by extensive ponds and parkland.

The architectural ensemble conveys a vivid impression of 18th century courtly living and festive culture. Inside, magnificent furniture, paintings, porcelain and ornate leather wallpaper bear witness to the glamorous life at the Saxon court. This is complemented by important collections such as the impressive hunting trophy display, the Catholic palace chapel and the famous feather room.

Moritzburg Castle also served as the backdrop for the fairytale film "Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella". During the cold season, the winter exhibition on the film gives visitors the opportunity to follow in Cinderella's footsteps.
