Saxon Fire Department Museum in Zeithain

At a glance

One of Germany's largest firefighting museums, featuring historic vehicles, technology, and fascinating insights into 180 years of firefighting history.

The Saxon Firefighting Museum in Zeithain is one of the largest of its kind in Germany and offers a comprehensive look at the development of firefighting technology and fire suppression. Vehicles, equipment, and gear spanning over 100 years are on display across approximately 3,000 m² of exhibition space and in the spacious outdoor area. Among the exhibits are historic hand-operated pumps, motorized fire trucks, uniforms, models, and dioramas. A special highlight is the extensive collection of Saxon fire department medals and decorations, as well as rare exhibits such as a fire train from the Deutsche Reichsbahn and a firefighting aircraft. The exhibition is organized into different eras and vividly illustrates the evolution from simple firefighting using muscle power to modern technology. Guided tours led by knowledgeable association members bring the visit to life.
