The town church of St. Marien, an impressive late Gothic hall church, together with Hartenfels Castle, characterizes the townscape of Torgau.
Luther often preached in St. Mary's Church and his wife Katharina Luther, née von Bora, found her final resting place here. In addition to her gravestone, the famous painting "The Fourteen Holy Helpers" by Lucas Cranach the Elder is also worth seeing.
Other treasures of the church include the tomb slab of Duchess Sophia of Mecklenburg, which was made in the famous Vischer workshop in Nuremberg, the baroque high altar by Simonetti, the ornate Renaissance pulpit, the Passion altar and the magnificent marble tombstone.
The town of Torgau is a stop on the Luther Trail Saxony.
