The Weißeritztalbahn is Germany's longest-running public narrow-gauge railway. It runs from Freital-Hainsberg through the Rote Weißeritz Valley to the spa town of Kipsdorf in the Ore Mountains.
Take a trip back in time on Germany’s oldest narrow-gauge railway still in public service! Since 1882, the Weißeritztalbahn has been chugging along on its 750-mm track through one of Europe’s most beautiful railway landscapes—with historic steam locomotive service every day.
Your journey begins in Freital-Hainsberg with the powerful whistle of the locomotive and takes you through the wild and romantic Rote-Weißeritz Valley. The train winds its way through deeply carved rock faces, repeatedly crossing the little Rote Weißeritz River and climbing meter by meter in elevation. Particularly spectacular: the climb to Kipsdorf, where the steam engine unleashes its full power—you can even hear it.
