Attention! The Gohrischheide is currently not passable due to the large-scale forest fire and the firefighting operations. Therefore, the cycling routes Gohrischheiderundweg, Röderradroute, Kirchenradweg, and Lustlagerrundweg are not usable in the Gohrischheide area! We will inform you when the danger has passed. The Röderradroute follows the course of the Große Röder along idyllic, natural paths from the source in the West Lusatia to near its mouth in southern Brandenburg.
This cycling route covers 106 km through Saxon natural landscapes, idyllic forests and floodplains, connecting not only numerous towns in the region but also enabling the discovery of their rich culture with historic castles and museums. The start is at the source of the Große Röder in West Lusatia near Rammenau. From here, the route goes via Bretnig-Hauswalde to Großröhrsdorf, where a stop at the local history museum or the Technical Museum of Tape Weaving is recommended.
Along the Heinrichsthaler ponds, you cycle to Radeberg, the town famous worldwide for its brewery. Right by the Röder is an opportunity to visit the city swimming pool after passing Klippenstein Castle. The river course winds along the cycle path out of the town. In Seifersdorf, you cross the idyllic Seifersdorfer Valley and at Hermsdorf Castle, the Röder embraces the historic buildings and castle pond.
The Röderradroute continues through more villages to Radeburg. Here the river forms a large reservoir on the right side at the entrance to the town. In Radeburg, you can visit the local history museum with the Heinrich Zille exhibition or take a detour with the Lößnitzgrundbahn to Moritzburg or Radebeul. Later on, the route passes through the town of Großenhain. Worth seeing here is the charming old town with the Kulturschloss, whose historic keep offers a wonderful view over the town and the Großenhainer Pflege in summer. The Marienkirche, the “Old Latin School,” and the Garden Show Park, a modern open space created for the state garden show, are also worth a visit. The route then follows the Röder toward Zabeltitz. Here you pass the Großen Gabelwehr where the Röder divides. Afterwards, you reach Zabeltitz with the Baroque garden with old castle and palace. Also worth seeing in Zabeltitz are the farmers' museum and the St.-Georgen Church. At the Parkschänke at the northern end of the Baroque garden, a break in the beer garden is recommended.
The idyllic Röderaue landscape protection area with a total of 25 ponds and the wonderful floodplain landscape is one of the natural highlights of this route. In Tiefenau, the castle church and the adjoining rose garden with its pavilions are very worth seeing. In the café, one can enjoy a relaxing break here on Sundays during the summer months.
The route finally ends in Brandenburg, in the small town of Kosilenzien, where a stop at the Burgwall Café on weekends is a must.
