This loop tour connects Moritzburg and Radebeul, offering the chance to explore the diverse wine culture in the heart of Dresden Elbland by bike.

The tour winds through the “Lößnitz” vineyard in Radebeul and crosses the Saxon Wine Trail several times. It’s worth stopping at the Talkenberger Hof, Wackerbarth Castle, and Hoflößnitz Winery audio guide stations along the Saxon Wine Trail to listen to fascinating stories about Saxon wine.

The route begins and ends in Moritzburg at the Lößnitzgrundbahn train station, which can be heard from afar throughout the region thanks to its steam locomotive. Passing through the Friedewald forest, you reach the historic center of Boxdorf and, via the Lößnitzweg trail, the wine village of Radebeul.

Driving along Weinbergstraße, you’ll discover the idyllic terraced vineyards, including the “Goldener Wagen,” one of the most famous vineyards in the Saxon wine region, which was redesigned at the beginning of the 20th century. The combination of vineyards, nature, and historic buildings is what gives this landscape its charm.

Next come a variety of wineries with old, carefully restored winemakers’ houses and wine bars. For example, it’s worth pulling into the courtyard of the“Drei Herren,” which offers not only a restaurant but also a small tavern right in the middle of its vineyard. The vineyard of the Karl Friedrich Aust Winery is also a worthwhile stop for a break with wine tasting. The neighboring Hoflößnitz Winery is another highlight of this tour. Here, you can also sample the estate’s own wines. In addition, you can learn about wine cultivation and production, the region, and its history at the Saxon Wine Museum.

Continuing on, you’ll pass the famous Spitzhaus Stairs. If you leave your bike here and climb the 397 steps, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic view of the region. The Bismarck Tower at the top of the stairs takes you even higher.

The route then continues past Radebeul vineyards such as the “Radebeuler Steinrücken” and the “Radebeuler Johannisberg.” From here on, vineyards alternate with beautiful villa estates. In between lies the Saxon State Winery“Schloss Wackerbarth,” where it’s well worth taking a sparkling wine or wine tour.

At the westernmost point of the tour lies the Matyas Winery. Here, during the summer months, you can take a short break at the on-site wine tavern. The tour then continues through the Rietzschkegrund and the charming rolling hills, past the Dippelsdorfer Teich, and back to the Moritzburg train station. Once there, Moritzburg’s sights invite you to explore further—the famous Baroque castle and the Käthe Kollwitz House are not to be missed.
