Dresden Elbland is ready for the holiday season

Perfect destination for last-minute travellers

In 2023, Dresden Elbland is one of the top 30 travel destinations worldwide recommended by Lonely Planet for 2023. The summer months in particular are ideal for discovering the "place to inspire you". "If you want to be inspired on your holiday and are looking for enjoyment and opportunities for an active holiday, Dresden Elbland is the place for you," says Corinne Miseer, Managing Director of Dresden Marketing GmbH. The cultural offerings alone are impressive, with a nice mix of regionally anchored open-air experiences and places that provide peace and quiet and a chance to cool off. There are many special holiday offers in Dresden Elbland, for example from the Technische Sammlungen Dresden. Behind its workshop title "Cyanotype - simply make blue!" is the opportunity to learn about the analogue photographic technique of cyanotype, which uses sunlight to create bright blue works of art on paper, and to create your own unique pieces.

Open-air offers

The Dresdner Schlössernacht takes place for the 13th time (15 July 2023). Musicians from different genres perform on various stages - from classical music to rock and tango, soul and Latin music to swing. Visitors can stroll and enjoy culture in the beautiful grounds, which include the extensive park area above the three Elbe castles Albrechtsberg Palace, Lingnerschloss and Eckberg Palace and the Saloppe event location. The evening will be crowned with fireworks and a façade projection on Albrechtsberg Castle.

The Filmnächte am Elbufer offer cinema and concerts on the open-air stage with perhaps the most beautiful "background image", the famous Dresden Old Town skyline (until 3 September 2023). Bands and soloists from the worlds of rock and pop will do the honours, such as Roland Kaiser with his 20th Kaisermania. Tickets are already sold out, but with a picnic blanket in your luggage, you can join in the celebrations with the people of Dresden around the film night area.

For ten years now, the concerts of the Dresdner Residenz Orchesters in the Dresden Zwinger. In a chamber orchestra line-up and with changing arrangements of classical music, the musicians led by Prof. Igor Malinovsky succeed in creating a very special atmosphere of intimate musical enjoyment in the romantic ambience of the Wall Pavilion.

The spirit of innovation, musical dynamism and special venues characterise the unique atmosphere of the renowned chamber music festival Moritzburg Festival (5 to 20 August 2023). Founded in 1993 by Kai Vogler, Peter Bruns and Jan Vogler in the style of the famous "Marlboro Festival" (USA), the Moritzburg Festival sees itself as both an experimental laboratory and a centre of excellence. Under the artistic direction of cellist Jan Vogler, it has established itself as one of the most renowned chamber music festivals in the world.

The popular admission-free arts and culture festival Palais Sommer Dresden presents itself at three locations in the city: at the Ostra Dome next to the trade fair, in Alaunpark in Neustadt and on Neumarkt square next to the Frauenkirche (12 July to 20 August 2023). Another firmly established open-air stage is the Junge Garde open-air stage in the middle of the Großer Garten, which attracts an audience of long-time and new fans with events of various genres (until 30 August 2023). City festival fans get their money's worth in Dresden Elbland, with CANALETTO - The Dresden City Festival (18 to 20 August 2023) and at City anniversary 1050 years of Torgau.

Museums

There are more than 50 museums in the Saxon state capital, 15 alone under the umbrella of the Dresden State Art Collections. Then there are the many museums and exhibition projects in the Elbland region. The VELOCIUM in Weinböhla, a compact bicycle adventure world.

On the occasion of the 350th anniversary of Rosalba Carriera's birth, the Old Masters Picture Gallery is dedicating the exhibition "Rosalba Carriera - Perfection in Pastel" (until 24 September 2023) by the Venetian pastel painter. Carriera, who was one of the most famous portraitists of her time, celebrated Europe-wide success with her pastel painting. With 73 pastels, Dresden possesses the world's largest collection of works by Rosalba Carriera. In cooperation with the Theatre Design/Mask Design course at the Dresden University of Fine Arts, the students are illustrating the 18th century maquillage in a project that will bring it to new life in the exhibition.

The exhibition at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden entitled "Of Genes and Humans" is one of this year's new special exhibitions in Dresden Elbland. It discusses the opportunities and risks of genetic technologies and illustrates how current genetic research is having an impact in cultural, social and political contexts (until 10 September 2023).

How can urban life and transport be reconciled? This is the central question of the exhibition "MOVE. Stadt macht Verkehr" at the Dresden Transport Museum (until 5 November 2023).

Felix Räuber, musician and singer of the former band Polarkreis 18, has embarked on a musical journey of discovery through his home state of Saxony for his project "Wie klingt Heimat". At the Museum of Saxon Folk Art, the visual, audio and film material from his search for traces will be presented in the exhibition "Wie klingt Heimat? A documentary installation" (until 22 October 2023).

Holiday time is also holiday time for many of the artists on the Dresden Elbland stages. This is also an opportunity for national and international ensembles to perform at the Semperoper Dresden, for example. This year, visitors to the Semperoper Dresden in July can "The great show of the golden 20s BERLIN BERLIN".

Wine experiences in the Elbland

In August, the Elbland region gets involved with special events, such as the renowned chamber music festival Moritzburg Festival (5 to 20 August 2023) and the Winery Open Days, during which wineries, wine taverns and other wine institutions open their doors (26/27 August 2023). The Winery Days are the precursor to the wine festivals in September, which include the Weinböhla Wine Route Festival (1 to 3 September 2023), the Federweißerfest at Wackerbarth Castle (9/10 September 2023), the Autumn and Wine Festival with International Travelling Theatre Festival in Radebeul (22 to 24 September 2023) and the Meißer Festival in Radebeul (22 to 24 September 2023). September 2023) and the Meissen Wine Festival (22 to 24 September 2023).
