No fewer than three varied gravel routes invite you to explore the region: Whether it’s leisurely gravel tracks through the Friedewald to Moritzburg, fast stretches of tarmac and off-road sections along the Elbe Valley between Radebeul and Klipphausen, or the route on the right bank of the Elbe from Meissen via Diesbar-Seußlitz to Zabeltitz – every tour combines scenery, technical challenges and cultural highlights. Perfect for sporty cyclists and nature lovers who want to experience panoramic views, trails and history all in one. Set off now and discover the diversity of the Dresden Elbland on two wheels!

Gravel route 1: Through the Friedewald to Moritzburg

This gravel highlight leads over a varied route on first-class gravel roads through the picturesque right-bank Elbe landscape around Meissen and Moritzburg. Over approximately 76 kilometers, you will experience impressive nature with dense forests, picturesque pond landscapes, and wide fields. Historical sights as well as charming towns and villages invite you to linger with their history and architecture.

Gravel ride 3: Right-Elbe route via Diesbar-Seußlitz to Glaubitz

Through the heart of Saxony: fast gravel route along the Elbe between Meißen, Großenhain, Diesbar-Seußlitz and back.

On this approximately 85-kilometer circular route, gravel riders experience the quiet beauty of the left-Elbe valley. Between vineyards, forests, and wide fields, the route leads through the gently rolling terrain of the Elbland away from the main roads, on firm natural ground, small farm roads, and quiet side roads. The route is ideal for sporty gravel bikers who value a scenic route with cultural stops.

Gravel Route 2: Left Elbe Valleys

Between vineyards, the Elbe Valley and enchanted valleys – the fast gravel route with the best of two worlds.

The gravel route is characterized by a varied course with a high proportion of asphalt, enabling fast rides while connecting scenic charms and historic places. In between, there are always varied sections on natural and gravel paths – perfect for all gravel riders who want to be fast on the move and still experience nature and history.

Elbe Cycle Route

An active and enjoyable journey through Dresden Elbland

It is the star of Germany’s cycle routes – with culture and nature as constant companions along the banks of the Elbe. The Saxon section of the Elbe Cycle Route is truly captivating: the dramatic cliffs of Saxon Switzerland to the east, and the charming hilltops of the Meissen Spaargebirge. In the far north-west lies Lutherstadt Torgau. In between, unspoilt nature, vineyards, charming village greens such as in Altkötzschenbroda – and the picturesque old towns of Meissen and Pirna

Accommodation? There’s something for everyone, from simple guesthouses and holiday flats to hotels – just as there’s a wide range of dining options, from hearty country fare to Michelin-starred restaurants. Tip: Don’t miss the rustic beer gardens and wine taverns serving wine, cheese and many other delicacies.

Cycling, Wine and Indulgence

Right Bank of the Elbe

The long-distance cycle route on the right bank of the Elbe is an excellent choice for a long ride. The route takes you just under 130 kilometres from the start in Pirna to the Renaissance town of Torgau. On this superbly maintained cycle path, you can cycle through the countryside in complete relaxation.

 

On your journey, you’ll pass the Dresden Elbe Palaces and cycle through the Saxon wine-growing region. It’s best to stop every now and then to enjoy the views. The Boselspitze in the Spaar Mountains is well worth a stop. From there, you’ll have a wonderful view over the Elbe Valley and can pop into a beer garden straight away.

 

Practical details have also been taken care of. Along the route, you’ll find ADAC cycle service stations in Radebeul, Diesbar-Seußlitz and Lorenzkirch. At these stations, you can carry out minor repairs on your bike yourself using the tools provided, or simply top up your tyres quickly.

Urban culture and kilometres

Left-Elbe

The left bank of the Elbe takes you straight to the vibrant and historic centres of our region. Experience a wonderful contrast to the right bank as you cycle. Whilst you cycle through peaceful vineyards on the other side, this route takes you right into the heart of city life. You’ll cycle comfortably downstream on perfectly tarmac-surfaced paths.

 

The route takes you straight into Dresden’s Old Town. There, you’ll cycle directly beneath the Brühlsche Terrasse, with an unobstructed view of the impressive architecture. The route is flat throughout, sparing you any strenuous climbs. Make sure to allow plenty of time to enjoy the fantastic viewpoints along the river. After a break at one of the many riverside cafés, carry on towards Meissen. The imposing Albrechtsburg Castle signals your destination for the day even from a distance.
