What else is on offer apart from wine?

Good wine calls for the right accompaniment. At the vineyards, you can look forward to homemade winemaker’s specialities, hearty snacks for in between meals and finely balanced menus featuring regional cuisine. The weekend is accompanied by selected live music and arts and crafts, which create just the right atmosphere at the vineyards.

Are the wineries geared towards families?

We want every generation to feel welcome. So that the whole family can enjoy the Winery Open Days, there are activities for our youngest guests too.

What’s the best way to get to the vineyards without a car?

Accepted Answer

The Elbland region is a wonderful place to explore, whether by rail or road. If you’d prefer to leave your car behind, simply make use of the region’s extensive transport network.

Take the S-Bahn line S1 to Dresden – Radebeul – Coswig – Meissen.
For the route Dresden – Radebeul – Coswig – Weinböhla – Niederau – Nünchritz – Leipzig, take the Saxonia Express RE 50.
You can also travel from Dresden via Coswig to Weinböhla on the RE 15 and RE 18.
Take the RB 31 from Dresden via Cossebaude, Niederwartha and Coswig to Weinböhla.
You can travel comfortably between Dresden – Radebeul – Coswig – Weinböhla on tram line 4.
Bus routes 63, 83 and P provide convenient travel to Dresden-Löbtau and Pillnitz.
Bus routes 68 and 93 take you from Dresden to Cossebaude and Niederwartha respectively.

How does the VGM special bus service work and which tickets are valid?

Verkehrsgesellschaft Meißen runs additional buses so that you can leave your car behind with peace of mind. Separate fare and carriage conditions apply to these special routes.

Please note the following points for your journey:

Children: Our youngest passengers travel completely free of charge until they start school. From the first day of school onwards, the standard fare applies, with no additional concessions.
Concessions: Unfortunately, no reduced fares can be offered for people with severe disabilities on these special routes.
Ticket acceptance: As this is a special service only, standard VVO tickets and the Deutschland-Ticket are not valid on these buses.
Bicycles and dogs: To protect all passengers and because space is limited, bicycles and dogs cannot be taken on board.

Which special buses take me directly to the vineyards, and how do I change buses?

During the festival, it’s very easy to explore the Elbland region without a car, as special buses connect the different banks of the Elbe and the wine-growing villages directly. The routes are organised so that you can travel flexibly from one winery to the next.

The main route (line 850): This bus runs every 20 minutes between Diesbar, Meissen, Coswig and Radebeul. It forms the backbone of the festival weekend.
The Meissen Surrounding Area Shuttle (Route 852): At Meissen bus station, you can easily change from the main route to this shuttle bus. It takes you directly to Proschwitz, Gröbern, Weinböhla and Sörnewitz.
The afternoon loop service: Until early evening, line 852 runs every 20 minutes as far as Sörnewitz. At the ‘Sörnewitz, Altes Wasserwerk’ stop, you can also transfer back onto the buses on route 850. It is only in the evening that this route is limited to the section between Meissen and Weinböhla.
The connection between the banks of the Elbe (Line 851): This shuttle bus crosses the bridge over the river. It links Radebeul, Cossebaude and Weistropp, allowing you to reach the vineyards on the left bank of the Elbe from Radebeul without any major detours. You can easily change to the main route here at the “Radebeul, Schloss Wackerbarth” stop.

Please note that there may be last-minute changes due to roadworks!

When will the next Winery Open Days take place?

If you like to plan your trip in advance, you can already mark the region’s most important weekend of indulgence in your calendar. Next year, too, Saxony’s winegrowers will once again be inviting you into the vineyards and cellars for late-summer discoveries. The 28th Winery Open Days will take place on 28 and 29 August 2027! Why not combine the weekend directly with a short break in the Elbland?
