Strehla
The City of Mermaids on the River Elbe
Picturesque, atmospheric and legendary: this is Strehla on the Elbe. The mermaids said to have once lived here leave an unmistakable mark on the townscape, and the historic town centre also exudes a fairytale charm: Surrounded by the gates of former farmsteads and two-storey town houses, the romantic market square invites you to linger. In the shade of the venerable lime trees that encircle the old fountain, the hustle and bustle of everyday life can safely fade away.
