Moritzburg offers plenty of day-out options for families. Why not hop aboard the Lößnitzgrundbahn, a historic narrow-gauge railway that takes you on a leisurely journey across Dippelsdorfer Teich, and soak up the unique atmosphere of this countryside? At the wildlife park, your children can bravely follow in the wolves’ footsteps, whilst the whole family marvels at the region from the treetops at the high ropes course.

Moritzburg
Between fairy tales, art and nature
A fairy-tale realm in the here and now
Moritzburg lies just a stone’s throw from Dresden. Here, fairy tales and reality, the past and the present, art and nature come together. The majestic Baroque Moritzburg Palace welcomes its visitors and houses precious treasures such as Elector August’s hunting trophies, gold-leather wallpaper and the famous Feather Room. No wonder the palace was chosen as the film set for the Christmas classic ‘Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella’. Every winter, the exhibition based on the film brings a sparkle to the eyes of thousands of fairy-tale fans.
But Moritzburg inspired not only filmmakers, but also artists. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Expressionists of the BRÜCKE artists’ group spent their summer months around the Moritzburg ponds. The unique natural surroundings, forests and lake landscape, as well as the summer life just outside Dresden, shaped numerous works by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel and Max Pechstein, making Moritzburg an important centre of German Expressionism.
