Radeburg
A twinkle in the eye, peace in the heart
To the north of Dresden, Radeburg – known as the ‘town on the Zille’ – welcomes nature lovers seeking peace and quiet, as well as cheerful explorers. Lakes, ponds and forests surround this pretty little town with its medieval alleyways. Numerous cycle paths and walking trails invite you to enjoy active relaxation – and nature awaits you outdoors.
Top things to do in Radeburg
In the footsteps of Heinrich Zille
Heinrich Zille, one of the most famous German graphic artists of the 20th century, was born here. His sharp wit continues to shape city life to this day: the local history museum and the Zille monument erected in the Heinrich-Zille-Hain commemorate his work, whilst numerous events today honour his name. With such a humorous legacy, it is hardly surprising that Radeburg, of all places, is regarded as Saxony’s carnival stronghold. Anyone wishing to make the journey itself an experience should take the Lößnitzgrundbahn. It chugs along a narrow-gauge track from Radebeul via Moritzburg to Radeburg, offering picturesque views and a nostalgic atmosphere. With this sense of calm in your heart (and a touch of mischief in your step), Radeburg invites you to unwind.

A real treat for nature lovers
Whilst Zille set out into the world with his sharp pen, nature here speaks its own quiet language. The Moritzburg landscape of rolling hills, for example, inspires a sense of quiet awe – a landscape of this kind can only be found in Radeburg and, apart from that, in the south of Sweden. Several circular routes wind through this gem, which is surrounded by the Friedewald to the west, the Großehainer Pflege to the north and the Radeburger Heide to the east.

The Zille Cycle Path connects nature, culture, and history of the region with insights into the biography of the famous illustrator Heinrich Zille.

Attention!
The Gohrischheide is currently not passable due to the large-scale forest fire and the firefighting operations. Therefore, the cycling routes Gohrischheiderundweg, Röderradroute, Kirchenradweg, and Lustlagerrundweg are not usable in the Gohrischheide area! We will inform you when the danger has passed.
The Röderradroute follows the course of the Große Röder along idyllic, natural paths from the source in the West Lusatia to near its mouth in southern Brandenburg.

The cultural landscape of Moritzburg is a paradise for cyclists. A special feature of this cultural landscape are the so-called Himmelsteiche (sky ponds) created since 1480 and Moritzburg hunting lodge. Nestled in an idyllic small-hill and forest landscape, the Himmelsteiche are fed exclusively with rainwater "from the sky" and meltwater after winter. The bike route runs through almost flat terrain on forest paths and side roads and is easy to ride.
