A journey through the centuries is evoked by Coswig’s buildings: the Old Church, built in 1497, features stunning frescoes and Saxony’s oldest organ. The Brockwitz Church, which took on its present form in 1737, exudes Baroque flair, whilst the “Villa Teresa”, built in 1873 in the Neo-Renaissance style, now hosts world-class chamber concerts and theatre evenings. The Karrasburg Museum houses the town’s history as a whole.
Connoisseurs will naturally also find plenty to enjoy in the heart of Dresden Elbland: in the charming districts of Neucoswig and Sörnewitz, they will discover first-class vineyards, and in the heart of Coswig, the variety of regional delicacies.

Hiking and cycling tours
Insider tips for active travellers
Coswig lies on both the Saxon Wine Trail and the Elbe Cycle Route – the ideal base for active excursions. There’s an insider’s tip in store for hiking enthusiasts: alongside the classic routes, the KARRAS circular trail leads to hidden gems that haven’t yet made it into every guidebook. From the Hoher Stein, the view opens up onto the Spaargebirge – Germany’s smallest low mountain range and a destination in its own right. All this is part of Coswig’s DNA: unwinding and enjoying life, preserving time-honoured traditions – and constantly exploring new things.

Due to extensive construction work in the area of Heinrichsburg Castle in Seußlitz, the hiking trail (staircase) will be fully closed from 18.05. to probably 19.06.2026. Please note that the path to Heinrichsburg is a dead end during this time (the viewpoint at Heinrichsburg from the forest road is accessible).
Detour route description from Diesbar to Seußlitz from "Schönster Weinsicht":
Walk back to the large vineyard gate, then turn left along the path through the vineyards towards Seußlitz. At the "Eckholz" archaeological signpost 4, turn right through the gate and take the "Schmiedebergweg" meadow path towards Seußlitz. When you reach the forest road (opposite the castle park), turn left along the forest road. The detour ends below Heinrichsburg/at the exit to the castle park.
Detour route description from Seußlitz to the "Schönste Weinsicht":
You have arrived on Forststraße at the castle park exit/below Heinrichsburg Castle and now keep left. From the staircase with sandstone figures to Heinrichsburg Castle, walk approx. 100 m further along the forest road, then turn right up the meadow path "Schmiedebergweg" and follow the path to the gate at "Eckholz" with the archaeological plaque station 4. Here you turn left onto the path through the vineyards and walk to the vineyard gate. Before the large vineyard gate, you can turn right and take a detour to the "Schönste Weinsicht" or continue straight ahead without taking a detour (detour completed).
You will also find corresponding detour signs on site.
If you do not wish to ascend or descend via the Wiesenweg, you would have to take Radewitzer Straße in the direction of Forststraße without the vineyard.
