Indigo printing is an ancient craft in which patterns are applied by hand to fabrics such as linen. It is a dyeing process that creates white patterns on a blue background. In 2016, this centuries-old fabric-finishing technique was designated by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Today, only a few German businesses still master the art of blue printing. One guardian of this ancient craft is the Folprecht Blue-Printing Workshop, based in Coswig. Since 1988, the workshop has been producing and selling hand-printed and blue-printed items made according to traditional methods.
