Monument to Encounter

Monument to Encounter

The Monument to the Encounter was erected to commemorate the first encounter between Allied troops on German soil.

The monument is located at the ferry landing in Strehla. It was dedicated in 1995 and commemorates the first meeting between U.S. and Soviet soldiers in April 1945. This first meeting took place on the Elbe meadows in Lorenzkirch near Strehla. Every year on April 25, wreath-laying ceremonies are held at the Encounter Monument in Strehla, attended by war veterans and their families.
