Dresden Striezelmarkt

From 24 November to 25 December, Germany’s oldest Christmas market is transformed. Anyone who arrives here immediately feels the city’s unique pulse.

In the centre of the square, the world’s largest step pyramid towers skywards, flanked by traditional market stalls. The air is filled with the scent of fine spices, hot apple punch and authentic Dresden Christmas stollen. Masterful wood carvings from the Ore Mountains meet handcrafted Herrnhut stars. Take your time for a leisurely stroll. Watch the craftspeople at work or try the original ‘Pflaumentoffel’ as a traditional good-luck charm. Situated between the Kreuzkirche and the Kulturpalast, the market has been combining living Saxon history with pre-Christmas cosiness for almost six centuries.
