Festung und Bastionen Sonnenstein
The Sonnenstein Castle towers high above the historic old town of Pirna and the Elbe River.
Since 2008, the former Sonnenstein fortress, which by then already had an eventful history, has been made fit for a new historical phase. The castle complex was reconstructed and developed into the district council seat of the Saxon Switzerland-Osterzgebirge region. The older part of the complex, the bastions and fortifications of the 18th century as well as the terraced gardens of the 19th century were reconstructed and renovated with much love and have been open to visitors for viewing since May 2012.
