Historic craftsmen's house in Torgau

Cramped rooms, crooked walls and original murals - the impressive craftsman's house documents the lives of ordinary people.

The craftsman's house is part of the Torgau Museum Trail, which preserves particularly valuable buildings and makes them accessible to the public. The small two-storey Renaissance building is the oldest house of Torgau's lower classes still largely preserved in its historical condition. Originally located "am Beckerwall" near the former baker's gate, it was situated on the edge of the historic old town. In the 17th century, three master coopers and two master chimney sweeps lived here with their families and even journeymen and apprentices. The cramped rooms and crooked walls, as well as the surprisingly original wall paintings, leave a deep impression and provide an insight into the living culture of past centuries.
