Jagdschloss "Grillenburg"

A Biedermeier hunting lodge whose origins date back to the 16th century. The venerable building can currently no longer be visited, but can still ...
Grillenburg is part of the spa town of Hartha. A popular destination is the small, idyllic castle island in the middle of the Tharandt Forest, which is flanked by three ponds. Around the island, in addition to a beautiful swimming lake with a snack bar, there are numerous hiking trails and a gondola rental. Through a picturesque sandstone arch bridge visitors can reach the island and thus also the hunting lodge Grillenburg. The castle ensemble also includes a Neo-Renaissance guesthouse, a bowling alley built in 1937, the gardener's house and the dog kennel.
The quiet location near the woods and water prompted Elector Friedrich August of Saxony in the mid-16 . Century to the establishment of an electoral hunting complex, which should serve both the hunt and the recovery. Between 1554-1558 a prince's house, "Schösserei", a servants' dwelling and stables were built on the property. However, after war damage and fires, only the Schösserei remained. In 1855, the "Schösserei" was converted into a royal hunting lodge and provided with the Biedemeier facade, which is still preserved today.
