Karl May (1842-1912), the creator of immortal novel heroes such as Winnetou, Old Shatterhand and Kara Ben Nemsi, has been the most popular and widely read German writer for generations. In his former home, the Villa Shatterhand, you will discover May's eventful life and literary work and immerse yourself in the adventure cosmos of the Saxon novelist. This includes the famous collection of weapons with silver rifle, bear-killer and Henrystutzen, his study furnished with oriental furniture and the valuable library.

The rustic Wild West log cabin Villa Bärenfett houses a unique collection on the cultural and historical life of the Indian cultures of North America. The exhibition includes impressive ethnographic objects from the 18th to 20th centuries: Splendidly decorated clothing, elaborate carving, impressive feather work and above all the life-size Indian figures inspire the young and old visitors from all over the world.

The spacious museum park with adventure playground, gold washing, walk-in tepee and the museum snack bar invites young and old to linger.
