KNOX Incense Cone Museum

KNOX Incense Cone Museum

KNOX is one of Germany's oldest companies producing incense cones. These little fragrant wonders have been crafted according to family tradition since 1865 and continue to be made today. The museum invites visitors to learn more about the history and production of the original Erzgebirge incense cone.

Since 1999, incense stick enthusiasts have been able to visit the unique exhibition at the KNOX Museum in the Grund district of Mohorn. The exhibits include incense cones and packaging from the company’s founding era around 1865. Visitors also learn interesting facts about the history of incense burning, the ingredients used in incense cones—including the “spices”—and the harvesting of frankincense in distant lands.

A special highlight is the incense stick workshop. Here, visitors can handcraft their own incense sticks. Various resins, barks, and herbs are available for use, allowing everyone to create their own unique scent. Registration is required to participate in the incense stick-making workshop.

The entire selection—ranging from traditional Christmas scents to floral and fruity incense candle fragrances—is available year-round in the small, lovingly decorated shop. This is complemented by authentic Erzgebirge incense men, decorative items, and the ever-popular “Herrnhut stars.”
