St. Mary's Church, Großenhain

The late Baroque St. Mary's Church, located in the heart of the city, is considered a unique landmark in the history of art.

Built between 1744 and 1748 by George Bähr’s cousin, the church’s unique cloverleaf shape (T-shaped floor plan) and the gallery of prayer rooms inside are particularly striking, making a visit to the church a “must” for visitors.

This sacred building ranks among the most original spatial creations of Saxon church art from the late Baroque period. The organ was built in 1977–78 by Johann Gottlieb Mauer of Leipzig. The baptismal font is made of sandstone and wood. The beautiful Easter window depicts Martin Luther.
