Meissen Christmas
At the Meissen Market, Advent is cosy, handmade and rather tasty. Nestled amongst the town hall, the huts and the scent of Christmas, from 23 November to 24 December you’ll find gifts, moments to enjoy a Stollen, and that little pre-Christmas spark that you sometimes have to search for.
When the Meissen market smells of pine needles, mulled wine and fresh pastries, Christmas in Meissen is just round the corner. All around the town hall stand festively decorated huts selling woodcarvings from the Ore Mountains, candles, Christmas decorations, pottery and small gifts that don’t look like mass-produced goods. Added to this is the Advent calendar on the town hall, where a window is opened every day. It’s not a huge spectacle, but rather a Christmas market set against the backdrop of the old town, with everything within easy reach and just the right atmosphere for cold hands and warm thoughts.
Getting there
The Meissen Christmas market takes place in the Old Town square. The S-Bahn runs several times a day directly from Dresden Central Station to Meissen and back. From there, the town centre is easily reached on foot or by public transport.
