Priest's house of Georg Spalatin

The lavishly restored priest's house is home to the "Sound and Faith" exhibition, which highlights the interplay between the Reformation and music and depicts the lives of Johann Walter and Georg Spalatin. Media stations and a children's trail make every visit an entertaining experience. The late Gothic priest's house was built in 1493/94 and is now the only surviving priest's house of the 15 houses in Torgau at the time. The house was owned by Georg Spalatin, a court preacher and prince educator, from 1525. As a priest, he held six sung masses a week in front of the altar. At the time, the house was located in the so-called Schlossfreiheit between the castle and the market square. With the help of the "Förderverein für Denkmalpflege in der Stadt Torgau e.V." (Association for the Preservation of Historical Monuments in the City of Torgau), the priest's house was restored to its original state in 2011. It is now the best and most authentically preserved priest's house in Saxony.
