Stadtmuseum Meißen

The Meissen City Museum is a local history museum and is located in the former Franciscan monastery church on Heinrichsplatz in Meissen's old town.

The Meissen City Museum is located in the middle of the historic old town on Heinrichsplatz and is one of the oldest collections of urban history in Saxony. It is located in the former Franciscan monastery church with parts of the cloister and the so-called Neo-Gothic House. The collections and exhibitions focus on the history and culture of the city and the region. Viticulture, shipping on the Elbe and the production of ceramics and porcelain are central themes. Museum visitors can learn about the historical development of the oldest city in Saxony - the focus is on regional economic, industrial and art history. Highlights include the largest hand-operated wine press in Saxony's wine-growing region, dating from 1788, and one of the rare examples of a historic Elbe boat measuring 11 meters in length.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, regularly changing special exhibitions and events invite visitors. The late Gothic hall church itself, with its cloister garden and cloister, is also an architecturally impressive ensemble.
